I was extremely stoked to collaborate on this graphic with Instinct Skis. I wanted to have an influence from 60’s - 70’s retro surf posters with bold flat colours and stylization of the natural environment. Being a ski design, I figured that the Norwegian winter God Ullr would grace the ski tips. Delivering his snowy bounty upon the Rossland Range depicted below. The snowy trees stand as frozen sentinels guiding us through to hidden powder stashes!
My art is largely based on the physical environments or sports activities that engage me. As an active skier, mountain biker and hiker I can’t help wanting to capture the feeling and beauty of those moments. I experiment with brush strokes (bold, pixelated, or refined) as well as combining a variety of medias (pen, aerosol, acrylics etc.) to illustrate desired effects.
Another aspect in my art is creating a visual journey for the viewer to engage in. These pieces are often portraits of people juxtaposed with animals. I feel that it is our role to be caretakers for our natural world as well as advocates for the animals with whom we share this moment. Hopefully these artworks convey that sentiment.
